Exceeding the BBB’s standards for charitable organizations

In order to deliver quality services to the community and maintain the standards and accountability expected of a community organization, United Way of San Luis Obispo County incurs the normal costs that any well-run business incurs. We answer to a local board of directors, contributors and our community, who demand we make a positive impact in people’s lives, rather than make a profit to disburse to shareholders. It takes hard work and capital to change people’s lives for the better!

And we are proud that we can deliver these services and meet all 20 of the Better Business Bureau’s Standards for Charity Accountability

The Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance recommends that charitable organizations dedicate at least 65% of their total expenses to their program activities.

United Way of San Luis Obispo County invests more than 80% of our budget directly in our programs.

We keep our costs low and we work hard for your trust, because at the end of the day, we know you expect us to help build a better community!
