stuff the bus 2010
Thank you to everyone that helped make Stuff the Bus 2010 a success!  With the help of our community, enthusiastic volunteers, hard working bus drivers, Office Max, KSBY, Meathead Movers, San Luis Paper Co., and the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education, we were able to fill three school buses with brand new school supplies for local elementary schools.  From August 13-20th we collected brand new pens, pencils, crayons, art supplies, binders, backpacks and much, much more.  These donations will await children and teachers as they begin the school year in San Luis Obispo County.  Click here to see photos of the event and check back again in the coming days for more photos as the supplies are delivered to local schools.

Kid Spree

On Sunday, July 25th, United Way partnered with Kohl’s in Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo to bring KidSpree back to the Central Coast. Participating children were given a $100 gift card, and are paired with a community volunteer who assisted them in shopping for new school clothes. Donations for the gift cards came from the community through United Way’s fundraising efforts. Over 160 children and youth grades K-12 from across the county benefited from this event. Shoppers enjoyed a 15% off discount and no sales tax thanks to Kohl’s, which also provided several volunteer associates from each store. Special thanks to Spencer’s Fresh Markets and the San Luis Obispo County YMCA for their contributions and also to those organizations that sponsored 10 or more children - First Bank of San Luis Obispo, Kiwanis Club of San Luis Obispo Morning, Kohl’s, Melvin C. Caldwell Construction, Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo Daybreak, Running Warehouse and Tennis Warehouse, and local resident and longtime supporter Bob Nichols. View some KidSpree photos.

Coast2Coast Rx Prescription Drug Discount Cards

In order to offer SLO County residents the best discounts on prescriptions that are not covered by a health insurance plan, United Way is distributing Coast2Coast Rx prescription drug discount cards in addition to FamilyWize discount cards. Similar to FamilyWize, the Coast2Coast Rx program has no age or income restrictions, waiting period, and does not collect any personal information; the card is free, does not expire and can be used right away to save on brand name and generic drugs. For more information or to request a card, contact Rachel Cementina at (805) 541-1234 or rcementina@unitedwayslo.org.
